I believe I mentioned in my previous post that I've never liked my birthday - don't like being the "center of attention". I've always been more of a low-key, blend in with the background type of girl, you know the type? I do enough crazy stuff to bring attention to myself without trying, things like falling off my chair at Los Hermonas in the middle of a huge crowd, having my slip fall off as I'm greeting children at the beginning of Primary, shutting my shoelaces in the door and falling flat on my face. I mean really, why would I want someone to purposely plan to put me in a situation where all the attention is on me, when I do such a good job of it on my own, without trying.
So, Friday we did the birthday thing, again as mentioned in previous post, with the fam, had dinner. It was a great night. End of birthday...done for another year. Oh no...not the case. Saturday Zac said we were all going to a movie that night and we were supposed to be at Megan's at 6:30. Okay, kind of weird since we'd all been out the night before, but hey, good times, okay? So, Zac and I left at 6:30 and went to Megan's. Tye's truck was there, Audrey's car...nothing out of the ordinary. I walked to the back door, knocked, walked in and everybody yells "Surprise". I just stood there in disbelief, thinking
ARE YOU KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW? Megan was cowering in the back--she knew I was going to hurt her. She said I had a really mean, mad look on my face and she was scared, really scared. I didn't know what to say, what to do, who to look at, who not to look at. It was a really terrifying few moments, I'm not going to lie.
Okay, so after the initial shock, I think I went around and hugged everyone, apolozied to everyone that they had to spend their Saturday night during the BYU game at a birthday party for me. Then I said to Megan a few times, "Now what? What are we supposed to do now?" She's just going, my gosh mom, maybe you could chat for a minute, mingle with people, relax, smile, sit down...do something except apologize to people for having a party.
These are the people who were there, hope I don't forget anybody. When I got there it was my three good friends from West Mountain, Abbie, Jan and Leah (love those girls), Uncle Joe (it's not a party without Uncle Joe), Janis (my friend from the hospital and one of "our group" that goes out to dinner every other month) Tye & Audrey, Zac, Larry, Jake & of course the little party animal, Megs. After my grand entrance, my sister LuWana & her husband Ray and their daughter Cindi & her son Anthony came. They only live in Lehi, but I don't see them very often so it was good to have them there. Then my friend Debbie (one of my road trip gals) came and we talked about our next trip on Oct. 7th to Mesquite. Then one of my very, very best friends, Lana who didn't even get an invitation came. She lives in St. George so Megan didn't send her one, but she was here for a funeral and ran into Uncle Joe and he told her about it. Oh my gosh!! it was awesome. I haven't seen her for probably at least three years and it was so good to see her. We used to have a business "Rent a Fool" and it was crazy, fun times. She brought me a totally risque gift that was so inappropriate and so Lana. It was just like old times. Okay, so then Marilyn (my other road trip friend) and her husband Dick came. Then Scott & Lindsey and their two kids Shonnie & Sydney (the two darling little girls I babysit once in awhile) came. Cutest little family you've ever seen. Then my sister-in-law Sheila Vane & her daughter Amberli and her husband came.
I didn't think I would be able to truthfully say this, but, it was so much fun. I can't believe I'm saying this actually. It was so good to see friends and family that I hadn't seen in a long time. I'm thinking I might just be wanting a party every year...I'm not kidding it was awesome.
So, to my darling Megs thank you, thank you. It was a "spectacular" party. The only thing that could have made it better would have been to have Jed there and he was planning on coming up until a few days before and something came up that he couldn't. He called during the party though and said, "this is the last surprise...go open the front door" and then he said, "sorry, just kidding". I would have totally lost it if he would have been there. That would have been so cool to have all my kids there. Anyway, on with the thank you's. Besides, Megan, thank you Jake, Larry, Tye & Audrey, Zac, Jed. I love you all so much!! And when Megan turns 60 I hope someone does the same thing to her.
